Wreckless Driving

2008-11-09

Sometimes just for fun I swerve when I'm driving. I don't do this in traffic, usually on a side street when I have the street to myself. My kids yell at me when I do this and tell me I'm going to get a ticket. I don't want a ticket (or any interaction with the police for that matter), I am just having what little fun I can in my otherwise boring and responsible life. So?

What scares me a little, though, is that I'm tempted to use the same philosophy for other things that don't involve a car and aren't on a side street. Then there could potentially be repercussions as if I'd driven recklessly in traffic. Which I don't. But since my life is careening unswervingly unto death, sometimes I'm tempted to bag the wreckless course of my life and start crashing into things just for fun.

The problem with this is that crashing into things is likely to destroy those other things, and this would undoubtedly involve other people and their lives, since the "other things" probably aren't mine to destroy. Bummer. So much for having fun. And it might not even be fun; but it would be different. Sometimes that's all I'm looking for...

No. Not true. I would like to actually have a little fun.
